Corus Entertainment is an entertainment and media conglomerate and a radio and specialty television producer in Canada. The company has assets in television broadcasting, advertising services, pay television, children’s animation, and children’s book publishing. Corus Entertainment is listed on TSX under the ticker CJR.B. Its main competitors are Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Bell Media Inc., and Astral Media Inc., among others.

The company was founded by JR Saw and built from Shaw Communications’ media assets. It spun off in 1999 as an independent, publically traded company and expanded through a number of strategic acquisitions. Today, the entertainment brands of the company include Movie Central, Treehouse, Kids Can Press, Encore Avenue, and others. Corus invests in television dramas such as Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures and Durham Country and Oscar-nominated movies, such as Eastern Promises and Away from Her through the Corus Made with Pay Fund and other funding initiatives. The production arm of Chorus Entertainment, Nelvana Studio produces globally renowned and award-winning brands – from new shows like Di-Gata Defenders, Bakugan, and The Backyardigans to literary classics such as Babar and Franklin. Nelvana Studio has won a number of program awards such as Geminis and Emmys and has a library of more than 3,200 episodes of programming.

The radio stations of Corus Entertainment offer a mix of country, adult contemporary, new rock, classic rock, and news talk and are committed to staying connected and serving communities across Canada. The company is also the first in Canada to offer Apple iTunes integration and an iPhone streaming application, making it possible to download radio content through smartphones and BlackBerry devices. The company encourages talent through a variety of initiatives such as 99.3 the FOX Vancouver Seeds and Canadian Artists Selected by You Awards.

Kids Can Press, a brand of Corus entertainment is the major publisher of children’s books on the Canadian market. It has published fiction and non-fiction titles and picture books for toddlers, children, and young adults. Partners of Kids Can Press include the Federation of Ontario Naturalists, the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum, and others.
