Bell Aliant is a Canadian communications company which offers services in many locations in eastern Canada, Atlantic Canada and in the rural areas of Quebec and Ontario. Bell Aliant is a successor to a company, which was established through the merger of Bruncor, Island Telecom, Maritime Telephone and Telegraph Company, NewTel Enterprises, which took place in 1999. They were the major phone companies in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia. In 2006, Aliant and Bell announced a proposed merger of Aliant’s operations into the operations of Bell. In particular, the retail and wireless networks of Aliant would be managed by the Bell World and Bell Mobility operations, which are wholly owned by Bell. Bell Alliant acquired 63.5 percent interest in Telebec and Northern Tell. Both companies are wholly owned by Bell Aliant since 2007 but manage and operate their wireless networks.
